DIY Mini Notebooks

Hello! Today we're making DIY mini notebooks out of cereal boxes. You will need:

  • cereal box or other thin cardboard
  • paper for inside your notebook (I used printer paper)
  • scrapbook or decorative paper
  • scissors (I used my paper cutter)
  • glue stick or white glue
  • pencil
  • button
  • embroidery thread
  • needle
  • binder clips or clothespins
  • wax paper

First, cut a 8"x5" piece out of your cereal box. Fold it in half. This will be the cover of your notebook.

With your embroidery thread and needle, sew the button onto one side of the cardboard.

Cut a piece of decorative paper the same size as the one you cut from the cereal box. Leave a long string hanging off of the button to wrap around the notebook.

Then, glue the decorative paper onto the inside of the notebook cover. Cover the top and bottom of the glued paper with wax paper and put heavy weights over the top. I used heavy books. Doing this will prevent warping when the glue is dry.

While waiting for the glue to dry, cut the paper for the inside of the notebook. I used 20 sheets of paper. It should be 7.5" x 4.5". Fold in in half.

With your pencil, mark dots approximately 1/4" apart from each other. These will be the outlines for the holes.

Put binder clips along the edges of the paper to keep it in place. Poke holes through the dots on the paper with your needle.

Start sewing! Just do a simple over-under stitch onto the paper through the cardboard.

Once you've finished sewing, tie a knot at the bottom of the notebook.

Close it up, and you're done! This is how mine turned out:

Although this DIY was a bit more complicated to make, the process was pretty fun. The end result is totally worth it! These make good gifts for anyone who likes to draw or jot down notes. I hope you try this one out!

Until next week,
